Science has done more harm than good. Do you agree?

I agree that science has done more harm than good to us. Science has made life easier and convenient. However, It has also endanger lives. Science helped us to do things in a more faster way which is good. Science has helped us to understand about how things work and get a clear understanding of things. Adding to this, many things like telephone could not have been invented without science.

However, science has also endangered lives. For example, nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are dangerous weapons which can kill many lives. Science has a lot of theory and experiment to be done. During experiments, Pollution can occur which can cause harm to the Earth.

I think science has done more harm than good. Science will do us good if we make use of it wisely without harming others.

Would the world have been a safer and greener place without science?

Science has improved our way of life a lot. Without science, we cannot lead a easier life. Science has helped us to keep the world safer and greener in much easier way. For example, science has shown us the various ways to keep our green and safe.

However, it has caused some harms. Science requires experiments and sometimes during these experiments, pollution occurs. Examples are air and water pollution. Science destroys the safety of the world. For example, Atomic bombs. Science helped to develop dangerous weapons such as atomic bombs but it can kill innocent lives.

Therefore, I feel that science has helped us a lot but we should use science with care.

Advancement in medical knowledge. Boon or Bane?

Many things like technology and medical has advanced a lot since the olden days. Nowadays, there is a lot of improvement in medical knowledge. This advancement can be a boon to some people and a bane to some. A boon means it is a blessing and a bane means misfortune.

Some people consider advancement in medical knowledge as a boon because it helps to cure illnesses ans save lives of people. In the past, there was a time where they were no cure for some illnesses which are now considered as minor illnesses. It is a boon because without the advancement in the medical knowledge, there would not be any cure for illnesses and many lives could not have been saved. Therefore, some people consider this advancement as a boon.

However, there are people who consider this advancement as a bane. The reason is there are also harmful experiments done due to the advancement. For example, cloning. Cloning is a process whereby a new person is formed identical to the person used for the cloning. Some people use the medical knowledge to do such experiments. It could sometimes cause harm to people. Therefore, some people consider it as a bane.

I feel it is a boon because there are laws to prevent mishap from happening. The medical advancement has helped to cure illness and save lives.

Qualities that I would look for in a friend.

Friend is someone whom we share our sorrow and happiness with. Everyone must have a friend because when we need someone to ask for help during our sorrow and share our happiness when we are joyful. Therefore, we have to look for some qualities in that person.

Firstly, my friend should be a honest person. For example, if he commits a mistake he should admit his mistake honestly. Adding to this, he should not tell lies to me because i will be a honest person to my friend. Honesty is the most important quality which a friend should have.

Next, I want my friend to be helpful and kind towards everyone. A friend should help others when they need help. He must be kind towards others. For example, he can help old people to carry heavy bags and console his friend when he has problems.

These are the qualities which I look for in a friend. I will do my Best to be a good friend to my friend.

Women in society. What are their roles these days?

In the past, there was a time where women was not equally treated as men. Women did not have much roles to play in society. In the olden days, women were not allowed to receive proper education and they always had to stay at home as housewives and do the household chores. However, as time passed by, women became more courageous and started to play their part in the society.

Now, women and men are both treated equally.Nowadays, women receive proper education and in Singapore education is compulsory for both males and females. Adding to this, most women do not like to stay as housewives and coming out of the house and work. They also play a part in improving the economy of a country.

Apart from that, women also take part in sports. For example, women participate in Olympics. This shows that both women and men are both equal. I feel that women also deserve a role to play in the society.

It is foolish to look for excitement in dangerous activities. Do you agree?

Nowadays, from young people to adults, everyone has stress in life. In order, to relieve ourselves from stress we have to do some exciting and fun activities. However, they are people who do simple recreational activities to distress but there are some people who involve in activities which are extremely dangerous. I agree that it is foolish to look for excitement in dangerous activities.

Most people do recreational activities such as sailing and other sports to distress themselves. I think this is a good way because it does not involve any risk to the person's life. Adding to this, they can participate in the activities with their family members and friends.

There are also some people who take part in extremely dangerous activities such as diving, skiing and skating. They do these dangerous activities because they want excitement and they find it thrilling. However, they may risk their life when they do such activities. I feel this is a foolish act because just for their own excitement, they may end up giving their family ans friends sorrow. Therefore, it is good to distress but safety is important.

It is better to be safe and not take risks. How far is this true?

Everyone faces a lot of problems and challenges in life everyday. We have to take responsible decisions in order handle the problems. Sometimes, we may have to take risks, however we should be always think twice before taking any risks. I feel we should take risks because we have to handle our challenges in life.

Many people tend to stay on the safe side because they fear about losing. I feel they should take both success and failure equally. Adding to that, they should be courageous to take risks. There are some smart people who know that taking some risks may lead failure. It is wise to be safe but we should take risks in order to reach a higher level in life.

There are also people who take a lot of risks in life. It could be a thrill to some people. I am not saying we should take all the risks but we should not be afraid to take risks which are within our ability. For example, we are offered a job which has high income. We should take up the job if it is within our ability without fearing about the complications of the job. All I wish to say is we should take some risks in life.

Finally, a new year has begun. This year, 2008 is very important for me. The reason is I am taking my 'O' level examination this year. My new resolution is to study hard and change my character to be more vocal. Apart from that, I also have some targets and expectations.

Since, I am taking my 'O' levels this year, I have some plans so that I will be able to get a good 'O' level certificate.Firstly, I have planned a time table to revise my schoolwork at home. I have extra classes after school to help me in my studies. When I come home, I will take a short break and finish my homework. Then, I will revise my schoolwork. It is quite stressful at sometimes.

My mid-year examination is coming soon. I am hoping to do well in my mid-year exam. My target for my 'O' levels is 10 points and below. In order to achieve my target, I have to improve all my subjects and get good grades for all of the subjects. Therefore, I will have to perform well for my mid-year and preliminary examinations.

Apart from my studies, I also want to get fit and lead a healthy life style. Two years ago, I used to be fat and I managed to get fit since last year because of regular exercise. However, I lost too much of weight. Therefore, I plan to eat properly and excercise at the same time. I hope this year will be sucessful and joyful year. Wishing you all a happy new year!

My end-of-year holidays have come to an end. I have managed to get promoted to secondary 4. It is an important year for me because this is the year where I am going to take my 'O' level examination. It is quite a stressful year for all the students who are taking 'O' levels.

My holidays was very fun and I have done a lot of useful things during my holidays. I revised my secondary 3 work and did a lot of practice for my weaker subjects. Adding to this, I went to the national library to increase my general knowledge. My English teacher gave a holiday assignment which benefited me because it allowed me to expand my general knowledge.I also went out with my cousin and his family. My cousin's name is Siva who is in the picture at the top right.

The most interesting event occurred on Deepavali. Usually, every year my mother's colleagues will come for lunch on Deepavali and this year it went on the same way. However, the present my parents bought for me for Deepavali was a total surprise. They bought for a new bicycle for me which is very stylish. I liked it very much. However, when I rushed down the staircase to see my new bicycle I fell down and sprained my ankle. However, I still enjoyed my holidays and had a great time with my family and friends.

Typed report

My future career is to become a police officer. In order to become a police officer, I have to join the Singapore Police Force. There are many reasons for choosing this career path. The three main reasons are I like to do investigations, I like the design and the color of the uniform and I am very interested in this career. I like to do investigations because it is interesting to solve mysteries and by unlocking mysteries, truth can be found. Therefore, I am very eager to join the criminal investigation department. Secondly, I like the design and color of the prestigious uniform. Blue color was my all time favorite color. Therefore, the uniform has impressed me a lot. I am aware that this career is a risky job. However, I still prefer to join the Singapore Police Force.

The Singapore Police Force has a historical background. The police force was formed in 1819 with only 11 men in the force. The commandant of the force was Francis James Bernard. The salary for the officers was only $300. Gradually, the Singapore Police Force was built up. Now, we have a police force with 38,587 men in the force. From a force with 11 men in the 1819 is now transformed into a force with 38,587 men. The Singapore Police Force currently has 15 staff departments and 13 line units.

There are a few qualifications required for this career. The applicant for this job must have minimum height of 1.62m and minimum weight of 54kg. The applicant must have good eyesight and normal color vision. The applicant must be at least 18 years old and certified medically fit. The minimum educational requirement is at least 5 GCE ‘O’ level credits or NITEC. Applicants with less than 5 GCE ‘O’ level credits will be considered on a case-by-case basis. I am planning to finish my GCE ‘O’ level examination and continue my further studies. My aim to get a degree in law management before joining the police force. I will have to achieve this by studying hard and do well in my examinations.

The police force has two main groups of officers. They are police officers and senior police officers. The police officers group has the ranks like corporal, sergeant, staff sergeant, senior staff sergeant, station inspector, senior station inspector and senior station inspector(2). The senior police officers group has ranks such as inspector, assistant superintendent, deputy superintendent, superintendent, deputy assistant commissioner, assistant commissioner and senior assistant commissioner. I always wanted to reach the rank of superintendent. In order to achieve that, I have to do my job properly and get a good conduct from the senior police officers.

The Singapore police force will still be present in the next decade. As you know, internal security is very important for a nation. For our country, we need internal security in order to prevent crimes. We need responsible and sincere police officers to uphold law and order. Therefore, the policeman career will still be relevant in the next 10 years.
